Best Prop Firm 2026: FTMO vs The5ers vs Blue Guardian
Best Prop Firm 2026: FTMO vs The5ers vs Blue Guardian
A side-by-side comparison of three of the most established prop firms (rules, scaling, splits and pricing) so you can pick the one that fits your trading.
« Best prop firm » depends entirely on how you trade. A scalper, a swing trader building toward $4M, and a beginner on a tight budget need completely different firms. This comparison cuts through the marketing so you match the firm to your style : not the other way round.
In this guide
1. What is a prop firm?
A proprietary trading firm gives you access to a funded account (in a simulated environment) after you pass an evaluation that proves you can trade within their risk rules. You keep a share of the profit : typically 80–100%. The appeal: trade larger size without risking your own capital. The catch: strict drawdown rules, and you pay an evaluation fee.
The upside
Access to larger capital, a high profit split, and a structured framework that enforces discipline.
The risks
Strict rules breach accounts on details; evaluation fees add up if you re-buy challenges repeatedly.

New measured test: RZR Funded (formerly Hantec Trader)
In October 2026 I tested on MT5 the 10,000 dollar Enhanced challenge of Hantec Trader, renamed RZR Funded on October 19, 2026. Rules: 10% then 5% target, 5% daily loss, 10% fixed total loss, no time limit, applied to the dollar by the dashboard. Daily loss limit hit on purpose: the server closed the account 8 seconds after equity went below the level. Costs against a Raw account: about 7 dollars per lot on EURUSD, on par with a Raw account; about 30 dollars on gold, double. Price shown: 99 dollars for the 10,000 dollar account on October 20, 2026, during the launch offers of the new name.
Full test with captures and video: Hantec Trader review (RZR Funded).
Paid partnership: this test was paid for by RZR Funded (formerly Hantec Trader). The verdict is mine, and it is not a recommendation.
3. Blue Guardian
One of the faster-growing firms, with instant-funding and evaluation paths and a competitive ~85% split. Strong choice if you want to start trading quickly, just mind the trailing drawdown and the 5pm EST daily reset.
Pros
Instant funding option, competitive split, multiple platforms, scaling to ~$2M.
Cons
Trailing drawdown on several programs; the daily reset trips up unprepared traders.
Full breakdown: Blue Guardian review.
4. The5ers
The long-term play. A decade-old firm with the furthest scaling plan (up to $4M), a split that climbs to 100%, and entry from just $39. Best for patient, disciplined traders who think in months and years, the starting split is lower and leverage is capped at 1:30.
Pros
$4M scaling, split to 100%, 10-year track record, very low entry, EAs allowed.
Cons
Lower starting split, 1:30 leverage, no MT4, bi-weekly (not daily) payouts.
Full breakdown: The5ers review.
5. FTMO
The most recognised name in the space, with an excellent reputation and a smooth platform experience. The trade-off: scaling caps lower (~$400K) than The5ers, and pricing sits at the premium end. A safe, polished default if brand trust and a soft drawdown matter most to you.
Pros
Top reputation, excellent dashboard and support, generous drawdown rules.
Cons
Lower max scaling, premium pricing, fewer program choices than The5ers.
6. Which prop firm should you choose?
Scale fast (intermediate/advanced)
→ The5ers, for the $4M plan and 100% split.
Beginner / cautious
→ The5ers Bootcamp or a small account : low cost, learn the rules.
Brand & soft drawdown
→ FTMO, the recognised, polished default.
Smallest budget / start now
→ The5ers ($39) or Blue Guardian instant funding.
7. The mistakes that fail 90% of challenges
- Trading without backtesting first validate your edge before paying for a challenge. (How to backtest.)
- Too much risk per trade tight drawdowns demand small, fixed risk.
- Ignoring firm-specific rules daily reset, news window, holding time.
- Over-trading to hit the target fast the surest way to breach.
- Re-buying challenges on tilt fix the process, not the receipt.
Give yourself an edge
Tight drawdown rewards precise sizing and clean structure. The Position Size Calculator PRO sets your exact lot, and the MSOB Dashboard maps structure automatically : both built for MT5.

Do prop firms actually pay?
The established ones do : The5ers, FTMO and Blue Guardian all have large public payout records and high Trustpilot ratings. Most « scam » complaints trace back to rule breaches, not unpaid profits.
Can I use EAs on prop firms?
Generally yes, provided they don’t do HFT, arbitrage or price-feed exploitation. Always check each firm’s specific rules.
Can I trade gold (XAUUSD)?
Yes, on all three. Gold’s volatility helps hit targets but cuts both ways : manage risk tightly.
Which prop firm is best for MT5?
All three support MT5. The5ers is MT5/cTrader only; FTMO and Blue Guardian also offer MT4 and DXtrade.
Which has the softest drawdown?
FTMO is known for relatively forgiving rules; The5ers uses a « daily pause » rather than instant elimination on the daily limit.
